I only hope I can be as bold. This gets right under your skin and pokes at those nerves that are just under the surface. The reality is, we as parents would never want our daughters to go through this painful decision. I post this not to argue the point but to say, little women have the right to enter into the full joy of womanhood and not be a statistic or a “choice” to do away with

I think I will turn off the comments on this one

Philemon 1:7
For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.

Again I find myself overpowered with joy. I wish I could quantify it all but I can not. I have so many things to be happy about and I know I will flop listing them  tonight, but MAN I have derived much joy from:

  • ALCC womens ministry, faith in action
  • John Graham, faith without pretense, love without  requirements
  • Rick McCullough  knock down guitar  and worship to end all
  • Carl, friend above all friends
  • Conor, weight lifting nut, shoulders wider then the gulf of Alaska, love beyond that
  • Potential at ALCC and the love of friends that is beyond words
  • Legacy , top shelf home school group, loving people, great kids
  • Journey to see where we go from here
  • Don Overstreet, Church Planting gyro and guru :)
  • My Ford truck, say what you will
  • My Long, Lost Love……..SURPRISE

Way to much to mention, but at the base of it are my friends that call me Pastor at ALCC

Life is good……………….

This is a bit disturbing, does anyone ever read the bills they vote on, if so what the heck are they thinking.I can not help but think if a movement , say in the 1930’s that had some of the same overtones toward the youth, get them while they are young……I wonder if this is the change we are all waiting for, This bill’s title is called “Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education” (GIVE) Obama’s plan is to require anyone receiving school loans and others to serve at least three months as part of the brigade. His goal is one million youth!

So the way I read it, 1 million youth that can not HERE is the link to the section of the bill READ IT I am not making this one up.

Happy St Patricks Day

st paddys day

Just a reminder , it is a day to remember a great church planter, missionary, evangelist,Christ follower.

It makes me crazy that today has been hijacked by a non-believing society, it is so much more that goofy green hats and ratty tasting green beer

“Christ, protect me today against an untimely death that I may receive abundant reward. Christ with me. Christ before me. Christ behind me. Christ within me. Christ with the soldier. Christ with the traveler. Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me. Christ in every eye that sees me. Christ in every ear that hears me. Praise to the Lord of my salvation! Salvation in Christ the Lord.”

St. Patrick

St. Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland, might just be the “Patron Saint” of some church planters. In his writings he points out some of his many shortcomings and his great zeal to reach the “unchurched” in Ireland, two of the things that parallel my journey. In his Letter to Coroticus, written because soldiers had kidnapped Irish Christians that he had just converted and he was furious. Although Patrick was a gentle and humble man of faith he reached the people of Erin in spite of his stature in life.

His limited education, in Law and Theology was no stumbling block to the “community” he was reaching. The reason, I believe was he was lead by and open to the Holy Spirit, and as Acts 8:12 puts it “But when they believed Philip as he preached the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.”

During Patrick’s captivity in the Irish wilderness he comes to know the God he missed as a child, although he was born into a Christian family (his father Calpurnius was a deacon; his grandfather Potitus a priest) yet he “did not know God.” Galatians 4:8 “Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods.” It is ironic that Patrick, as a slave found the God he missed as a free child and he takes on the same concern for the Irish that Paul had for the Galatians.

Although Patrick regrets his educational achievements, his crystal clear understanding of the Doctrine of the Trinity, the Love of Christ for the lost and the redemption found only in Jesus, was the start of Christianity breaking out on the Island of Éireann and spreading throughout the world.

Though Patrick wasn’t the first missionary to Ireland, an unsuccessful Palladius preceded him. He was the first who was successful. And he took Christianity to people outside the Roman Empire. In their own community and culture.

Patrick also has a record of speaking out against slavery and was a defender of women and children. In his Confessio he writes of a woman who becomes a leader among Christian women and goes on to express grief that women held in slavery had the worst lot of all. In his regard for women and for the sanctity of life Patrick was a Planter ahead of his times.

  • Kidnapped by pirates at age 16
  • Embarrassed at lack of education
  • Finds God while herding pigs(?)
  • Escapes, guided by a voice
  • Recalled to Ireland by dream
  • A childhood confession returns to haunt him
  • Boasts of bringing religion to the Irish
  • Baptises a beautiful Irish princess
  • And this is my confession before I die.”

The Great Famine

Busted my buns for a few weeks so once again I am letting the music take me down a notch. Every time I listen to this one, it does what all good Irish music does, makes a grown man cry.

It reminds me of what a looser I have been over the last year, My parents are 2 hours away, my sister, 2 hours, three brothers within an hour. I have only seen one brother once since August, the others maybe twice. I will do what I can to sort that out.

This song is a sad love song, over the course of 7-8 years the Famine in Ireland took it’s toll on many families, the country lost 25% of it’s people, a  million dead, a million or so emigrated. The political side of the debate still lingers as does the bitterness of many. This song was written based on a series of letters from a father to his son who left Ireland for America for a short visit, well thirty years later the song plays out to a sad end….

I am off to my hot Cup O Tea and more music. I have a big weekend, worship workshop tomorrow , Church Sunday with the worlds best people  my friends at ALCC

Blessings to all,

under-construction

Not a bad run at it, in just two nights I have managed to rip out all of the cabinets in the kitchen and get it ready to make it a kitchen once again. One of the things that really struck me was just how much junk one church could collect, we have more unopened packages of “stuff” from Staples than you can imagine, looks like someone had an open expense account and went wild, just how many staples can we use in , say a hundred years, unreal. We have construction paper that goes back at least six years that I have been there and I know it was never touched, MAN o MAN .

Anyway, it is coming together so if you have any free time, stop in and lend a hand
